Have you ever found yourself spending hours searching for new investment ideas?

I know I have.

The countless hours I would spend trawling Reddit, Twitter, and even Discord in search of some hidden gem was a huge waste of time.

Eventually, I gave in and decided to go down the investment newsletter route and sign up for the ones that made the most sense.

So in this article, I’m going to share my top stock and investment newsletters for investors that don’t want to waste time searching for hidden gems.

1. Ticker Nerd

TickerNerd

Ticker Nerd is one of my favorite investing newsletters for retail stock investors. They surface undervalued US stocks worth investing in. With a long-term perspective, each report is crafted with a time horizon spanning three to five years.

One thing that separates Ticker Nerd from the other newsletters is that they always cover the risks of a stock. Whether this is a legislation update, geopolitical challenge, or a growing debt on the balance sheet, they will surface it early so you know everything, not just the positive and exciting things.

The team sends one report per month and they cover two stocks that should be on your radar. You can expect to see hedge fund trading data, Wall St analyst ratings, social media sentiment on Reddit and Twitter, and fundamental and quantitative analysis.

If you’re looking for a stock newsletter that is objective, well-rounded, accurate, and does not hold any positions in the companies they mention you should sign up for Ticker Nerd.

Price: $39/mo or $199/yr

2. Exec Sum

Exec Sum

Exec Sum is a daily newsletter, consumed by over 200,000 readers. They send well-researched finance, technology, and business news with a dash of humor.

You can expect a brief, clear summary of important news, insightful interviews with top executives, and trend analysis, making it a go-to source. I find the newsletters to be engaging, humor-infused, and generally just an entertaining reading experience. While they won’t share which assets are worth investing in, they will aid your decision at a macro level.

What I like most about this newsletter is that it keeps me informed on everything happening within the market, but is also engaging to read. Some daily newsletters feel like a waste of time and a clutter to your inbox. Exec Sum is the perfect combination of funny and informative, and if you can appreciate this then I recommend signing up.

3. Zacks Premium

Zack's financial newsletter

Zacks Premium is a subscription-based newsletter that has been running for over 25 years. Their research equips investors with distinctive market analysis from Zacks Investment Research.

It provides daily market updates and recommendations for buying, selling, or holding shares. Subscribers also gain access to valuable tools such as Zacks Rank, Zacks Equity Research, the Focus List, and a range of stock screeners.

One thing that separates Zacks from other investing newsletters is that their research is all conducted in-house, they don’t rely on much external data to form a view on which stocks to cover. Some may argue that this can skew their reports, but I haven’t found this to be the case.

If you’re interested in getting access to all the additional bells and whistles like the screeners and research reports then you should consider a Zacks Premium membership.

4. The Kiplinger Letter

Kiplinger Letter

The Kiplinger stock newsletter is a comprehensive weekly resource offering insights and analysis on various facets of the stock market. It’s been around for decades and is run by seasoned financial journalists and analysts.

You can expect diverse topics like stock picks, market trends, and investment strategies in each report.

The newsletter's benefits extend to highlighting potential investment opportunities and presenting insightful investment strategies aimed at wealth growth. Once you subscribe you’ll gain access to expert advice from a team of experienced financial journalists and analysts.

Most other newsletters do not offer this, instead, they just offer reports. This contains a lot more opinion-based information. And for some people this is perfect!

5. Motley Fool Stock Advisor

Motley Fool

The Motley Fool Stock Advisor newsletter is a longstanding monthly publication, and arguably the most popular. With over 20 years in circulation, the newsletter has a proven record of success.

Subscribers receive two new stock picks each month, exclusive research reports and analyses, the latest investment trends and strategies, and membership in a community of like-minded investors.

They’ve recommended stocks such as Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Microsoft, and Alphabet, which have subsequently generated significant returns. I will note that they’ve been around for so long that they have covered most of the market and this isn’t necessarily an indication of their true performance.

I recommend signing up for Motley Fool if you’re interested in a newsletter with a proven track record and large user base.

8. Alts.co

Alts.co

Unlike any of the other investing newsletters on this list, Alts.co is an alternative assets newsletter. Whilst they sometimes cover traditional investments like stocks and cryptocurrency, they usually focus on other assets like art, collectibles, precious metals, real estate, and cryptocurrency.

The main reason I signed up for this newsletter was the exposure to new asset classes and investments I had never heard of. It’s hard to find accurate information on alternative assets like art or collectibles. So if you’re an investor that can appreciate alternative assets and is interested in learning along with 90,000 other investors then Alt.co is for you.

9. The Barefoot Investor Newsletters

Barefoot investor - free stock tips and strategies

The Barefoot Investor is a financial literacy program created by Scott Pape. You might also be familiar with the best-selling book, also called The Barefoot Investor.

It is based on the idea that anyone can achieve financial independence, regardless of their income or background. The program provides a simple, step-by-step guide to managing your money, including budgeting, saving, and investing.

However, the newsletter is often referred to as the “finance bible” and offers loads of advice for those looking to make better financial decisions.

Subscribing to the Barefoot Investor newsletter offers several benefits including staying updated on the latest financial news, gaining expert advice from Scott Pape himself, and becoming more financially literate through an easy-to-understand approach.

It follows a program designed to guide you toward financial independence by teaching effective money management and wealth-building strategies, rather than offering specific investment advice.

Final thoughts

Investing newsletters are an easy way to save time and make better decisions. However, choosing the right one for you will depend on your goals, budget, and technical proficiency.

Whilst some newsletters are easy to read (like Ticker Nerd), some are more complex in nature and are attached to research platforms that have a steeper learning curve (like Benzinga Pro).  The good news is that most of these have a free trial so I highly recommend exploring your options before committing to a single service.

Frequently asked questions

What is an investment newsletter?

An investment newsletter is simply a regular publication that provides financial and investment advice, often featuring stock recommendations, market analyses, and economic trends.

It serves as a resource for time-poor investors, helping them make informed decisions about their investments and stay abreast of evolving market dynamics.

Is Motley Fool the best investment newsletter?

This depends on your definition of the best. Whilst Motley Fool has an impressive track record, they have been around for over 25 years, which means they’ve covered most of the stocks on the US exchanges.

Which newsletter is best for the time-poor investor?

After reviewing each newsletter and associated platform, my recommendation is Ticker Nerd. The newsletters take less than five minutes to read but they cover the most important aspects of a stock, including supplementary data points such as hedge fund trading data, sentiment, and social media mentions.

Another reason I stick by this decision is the fact they cover the downside and risk. Without this, you’re often left researching the risks associated with an investment which defeats the purpose of the investing newsletter in the first place.
